Getting to Know Fears and Phobias

Optimists see the world as a benevolent place.Image via Wikipedia

A person’s fear can hinder his chances for development and for success. Fear in itself can be debilitating and can limit a person’s ability to go through life in a healthy way. Sometimes, a person’s fear can rule a person’s life and he becomes bereft of reason.

A person who allows his fear to rule his life can be prevented from leading a normal life. The sad fact is that the person who has the fear is not the only one affected, but also his family, friends, and the people around him.

Fear can be healthy because it allows a person to be on his toes and to be watchful of what is happening around him. A person can actually make his fears work for him instead of against him. Then again, this requires a lot of self-control and positive thinking.

A person’s fear can be caused by an event that happened some time ago, or by a belief that he is not capable of dealing with something or someone. There are fears that have a real basis, but most fears are just the creations of one’s imagination.

Phobia is also a fear of something, but such fear can be considered irrational. A phobia can be ridiculous and exaggerated such as a person’s fear of cats or of water. Some people who have developed phobias are aware that the fear is not based on rational thinking; but unfortunately, they are not able to get hold of their emotions and rise above their irrational fear.

Some people are quick to equate phobia with insanity; but it is not fair to conclude that just because a person is phobic, it means that there must be something wrong with his sanity. A person’s phobia can sometimes be embarrassing, especially when he is not able to control such fear. There are people who actually shiver and hide when confronted with their phobias.

Phobias can be simple like the simple fear of being in an enclosed area, or complex like the fear of riding an airplane. A social fear can be manifested in the fear of public speaking or of being surrounded by a crowd. Most phobias are characterized by panic attacks such as when the person is confronted by his phobia and he is forced to come face-to-face with it.

It is normal to be afraid because fear is rational. However, a fear that becomes irrational and is already without basis, is already called a phobia. It is no longer normal and can disrupt a person‘s lifestyle.

A person who wants to get rid of his phobia should not turn to doctors who dig deeper just to discover the root cause of the phobia. Such an activity can be a waste of time because finding the underlying cause of the phobia will not get rid of it. What is more important is to be determined and strong-willed so that the person’s fears will no longer rule his emotions. If a person can learn how to handle his emotions, then he can get rid of his phobia.

How To Stop Procrastinating

Time LostImage by gothick_matt via Flickr

"Procrastination is opportunity's assassin."

~ Victor Kiam, American businessman, Remington Electric Razors (1926-2001

Do you put off your work for later, only to find your deadlines steadily creeping in? Then you, my friend, are one of the millions of people afflicted by the procrastination virus. Procrastination is the biggest reason for loss of productivity and late output. Though many would not admit it, they would benefit greatly if they start their work on time.

For many people, putting off their work for later is more habit than desire. It can be so hard to get into a groove where starting your tasks in a timely fashion is a priority; especially if the consequences for being late are things that one can probably bear.

If you are one of these people, yet you desire to shake off your propensity for procrastination, then you have come to the right place. Here are a few tips to help you overcome this dilemma and become a more productive and reliable person.

1. Set schedules – It is very important that you have a list of activities to accomplish per day. This will help you realistically budget your time and resources. One of the cardinal sins people commit in regards to performing their tasks is to put off their work because they feel like there is so much time left. A journal, organizer, or calendar of events will help you plan and schedule your task so that you can start them promptly and finish them on time.

2. Save the Vacation for Later – Many people put their work off for later saying, “I'll just have a little fun then buckle down to work later.” While it may be true that they may have more than enough time to accomplish their tasks, it would be better if they finished their work first and relax afterwards.

Wouldn't relaxation be sweeter if it were after a taxing job? If you choose to lay back and relax before doing your tasks, you will be more prone to burnout and will have nothing exciting left to look forward to after accomplishing a task. It is always better to have slack period AFTER a job than before one, especially considering that people are wont to overusing their slack time. This is suicide if you are heading towards a deadline.

3. Never Underestimate Your Tasks – Sometimes procrastination sets in because people underestimate the resources, difficulty, and time spent for a particular task. They will usually say, “It's just mowing the lawn, it’s easy; I could do it in a jiffy.” The problem is, no matter how trivial the task, it still takes time and resources to accomplish. If you underestimate a task, you will most likely set too little time to do it and schedule it too close to its deadline.

4. Don't Allow Yourself to Get Comfortable Doing Nothing – It would definitely help if you kept a subconscious alarm whenever you are doing nothing. Get this alarm to remind you of things that may need to be done. This will help you foster the notion that jobs accomplished now means more time for relaxation later. However, even if this is the case, do not forget to put ample time in for rest and to remove all thoughts of troubles before hitting the sack. The trick here, however, is not to overdo you rest. There is a difference between resting and idling. Always set the right amount of time for rest and stick to that schedule.

The Dark Dynamics of Debt and Fear

WASHINGTON - APRIL 23: White House National...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

Debt. Who isn't in it nowadays? It seems to have captured almost
everybody these days. Individuals are in debt, companies are in
debt, even nations are in debt. And this debt is collapsing on
people, companies and countries. The question is why are we
playing the debt game? Who said we have to play it? When did it
start? How can you get out and ahead of it and not be swallowed
by it?

In this article, we are not going to look at the cosmetic reasons
behind debt, nor the cosmetic fixes to it. We are not going to
look at how to cut down your business expenses, put your credit
card in water and freeze it in your freezer, or do anything else
cosmetic to get out of debt. These tactics have their place, and
they are useful in certain situations. But right here, we will
look at the root cause and root solution. Let us begin.

First of all, let us define money. Money is the energy of
exchange or transfer of value. It is neither good not bad, it
just is. You build wealth by building some type of value within
you, and then extending this value outside of you. For example,
you can learn to be a doctor, and thereby build that type of
value within you. Or you can learn how to start a business that
provides a service to people. You build value within you, and
then you extend that outside, through trade or other means, and
in exchange of that extension you are compensated with cash
money. Cash money is merely an exchange of value within and
between beings. See, money in itself is neither good nor bad. It
is just an exchange of the underlying values between two or more
participants.

So where does debt come into the scene? And why? Ok, it is time
for a history lesson. I am sure you all know that before cash
money was invented in it's present form, people used to trade by
barter. They would exchange goods. Finally, one day, a powerful
merchant family said "We have another way we can do this". I
believe it was the Medici family of Florence, although the Romans
and other civilizations also had their own coins. Anyway, the
first paper money worked as follows. A trader would go exchange
his or her goods for gold. They then take this gold to deposit it
with the Medici, and the Medici write up a paper with their
signature and seal, a paper that would represent the gold that
was deposited with them. This solved various security and
portability issues and increased trade. This paper, upon return
to the Medici, would be exchanged into its gold equivalent. That
is where the gold standard came from.

Now let us look at debt. Imagine that the Medici have just opened
up their first bank and announced the new scheme to the traders.
So one trader, let us call him Alan, goes to the Medici and
deposits $100 worth of gold. The Medici makes up a paper saying
that this paper was exchangeable for $100 worth of gold upon its
return (less a banking fee, plus an interest, whatever). Alan
takes this paper and goes home. Alan can use this paper to buy
things, but let us assume he does not. Now James, another guy,
wants to start a new business, a hotel. He has the land and
building but needs some pots and pans. He does not have any goods
to trade in exchange for pots and pans, but he hears the Medici
are giving loans.

So James goes to the Medici and asks for a $100 loan. The Medici
say they can do that, but James has to pledge his land and
building as a security, collateral, in case of default. The
Medici make up money (money that did not exist) on paper, sign
and seal it, and give it to James. The condition is that on
return, James has to give back $100 plus $10 interest. Now freeze
right there. Imagine that James and Alan are the Medici's only
two customers at the time. Which means that the economy only has
two paper notes out there, one with Alan and one with James. And
James has to return his plus $10. Where will James get that $10,
unless Alan comes and rents a room at James' hotel for $10? The
Medici did not print the extra $10! So even if James is hyper-
careful with his loan, even if he does not spend it but returns
it after a year intact, it is physically impossible for him to
pay the $10 interest, because he cannot print the extra money and
Alan does not want to spend his, yet Alan is the only one with
the only other note printed! Do you see the error in this system?
Even if James now has goods to trade, he cannot trade them for
paper money because there is no more out there. James will have
to lose his hotel to the Medici simply because of a paper
shortage error. Debt, by its very nature, is designed to fail for
a certain percentage of the population, no matter how much effort
or care they put! And it is so simply because there is not enough
money created for the interest requested. The only reason this
illusion has managed to run this far is that there are millions
of players. Every now and then, the debt bubble bursts, but
someone somewhere comes and rescues it, again with more debt and
more conditions of control. It happens to individuals, companies
and countries. And it keeps rising, getting bigger and bigger.

So what? What does this mean to you? Simple. As you are about to
see next, debt is a function of control and hence fear. Give me a
minute and you will see why. Read on. Debt is a product of fear,
and a deep seated belief in not having and not being able to
have. And fear is a means of control. We all play the control
game. We play it with our spouses, family, friends, competitors,
customers, and so on. What happens when you feel that you are in
control of another person? You feel powerful, and they feel
drained. But, there is a rule that say "As above, so below". The
physical is evidence of the spiritual. Fear, were you to observe
it at an energy level, leads to the victimizer sucking the energy
out of the victim. It is an energy game. When one is in fear,
they lose energy to those who put fear into them. Isn't that the
way any abusive relationship works? It does not matter whether
this relationship is between people, institutions or countries.

Before we look at you further, let us consider the mortgage game
that many of us play. Mortgage. What does that word mean? Where
does it come from? Split it up and look at its origins. Mort,
muerto, mortuary, morgue... do you see the root? Gage, engage.
Engaged till death. Why would your house loan be called a name
that has its word origins from the words that mean death and
engagement? Why those two? Of all the millions of words, why
those two? The English language was built up by deriving words
primarily from Latin. And Latin came from the Romans, a nation
that inherited much of its wisdom from the Greeks who in turn got
a lot from the original Egyptian civilization, all of which had
one common ancestor, the wise Hermes Trismegistus, the same
person known as the Egyptian and Greek god Thoth, the same person
known in Christian and Jewish history as the powerful Enoch, one
of only three men in the Bible to end their life on earth by
simply rising to the skies and disappearing. This is the same
person who invented language and writing, geometry and
architecture. This is the same person whose teachings ended up
forming the Essene school, the same one that Pythagorus and Jesus
studied under. And a core Hermetic teaching is this: As Above, So
Below. And the language invented was designed to reflect this
law. Above here means the spirit or energy side of things, and
below is the evidence we see as physical objects.

Now let us get back to you and debt. What does debt make you
feel; especially when you cannot pay it or you are worried about
how to pay it or missing a payment? It makes you feel fear.
Whatever is scaring you is attempting to control your thoughts
and actions and is stealing your energy for its own growth. There
are two ways to grow. Out of fear and out of love. The fear-based
growth works, but it is destined for eventual collapse, simply
because it is not real. Nothing real can be threatened, and
nothing that is unreal exists but as an illusion. This is not the
time to blame the issuers of debt, or anyone else for that
matter. There is no judgment or guilt in the matter. Only
energetic facts. The minute you start playing a blame and
judgment game, you enter into a victim position, and that is no
good for you.

And the fact is this: debt is a function of fear and self-worth
issues. You will find that people with more love of their own
self, and high self-esteem, are very wealthy and prosperous,
especially on the long-term, and if they choose to be. Prosperity
is a natural result of love and self-worth. Look at the rich.
Even if they have debt, their asset column is longer than their
debt column. They only use debt as a tool. And they always have
more assets than debt. And what is their demeanor like?
Confident, stable, of high self-worth and self-esteem, and their
love column is often longer than their fear column. They may have
fears, of course, but their fears do not outweigh their love and
passion for who they are, what they do, the world they live in.

Now consider people with debt problems, or countries with debt
problems. What is the personality of such people? Chaos, fear,
never having enough, support issues, and so on. These do not
arise because of debt. The debt arises because of these mental
states. That is not a bad thing. Remember, we are not judging
anything here. We are merely observing energetic facts. There is
no need of tying a thought and an emotion to that fact. Now, the
debt merely represents them losing their life energy to an
external entity. But they only lose it because they accept to do
so. Only they can say "I accept". And only they can say "OK, I
have had it with this crap, I put my foot down, and I am now
seeing myself differently."

The debt rope is always being thrown at us all the time. You
don't have to grab it. The world has built a very large global
fear-ego, and this fear-ego is expressing itself in various
physical means to maintain itself. Our world is now a world of
contracts that try to commit you into debt (we now even have
phone contracts that penalize you for not using the service for a
certain amount of time!); credit cards that do the same; jobs
that scare you towards that end. But none of these are to blame.
Only you can accept them. And they can only work on you when you
accept them. These big bad monsters are rubber ducks, because
they depend on your agreement with them for their own
functioning. Take responsibility, and you will find then, and
only then, that you have response ability. And avoid these debt
traps. You must unplug yourself from the group consciousness of
the Fear Ones, and join the Love Ones. It may be scary as you
make the switch, for there is a gap to cross. Things may fall off
to make space for new ones of the new way. But once you cross it
you will wonder how you ever had agreed to live any other way.

There is nothing wrong with debt, when used as a tool. But when
it arises, as it mostly does, from fear and negative self-worth
beliefs, then it is a control game being played, a painful one at
that. A game we created and continue to create.

Arises out of fear and belief in inadequacy. Arise out of issues
with negative self-worth. Recognize that there is a game being
played. An energetic game with simple rules. As above, so below.
Change your above, and your below will change automatically. You
have free will, and you are the master of your world. Make your
choices knowing that each one of them must have a root, and there
are only two possible roots you can choose from: love or fear.
Only one is real, and the other is an illusion. I wish you the
best in everything.

'At Last A Life' The Complete Book For Cure From Anxiety and Panic Written by ex-sufferer Paul David

INTRODUCTION

Let me introduce myself. My name is Paul David and I suffered from every aspect of the anxiety and panic disorder for 10 years, until I reached the point where I thought I could never recover. I would panic whenever I went out and suffered chronic anxiety until I could no longer function properly. I was constantly depressed, had no interest in life and thought I was going mad. I felt as if I was walking round in a dream while the world passed me by. I lost my job, many friends and, more importantly, it robbed me of my whole personality. What had happened to that once confident person who could enjoy life?

This is when I first went to see a doctor. I remember that first meeting like it was yesterday, me sat there talking at 100 miles an hour, thinking "I don't know what's wrong with me, but you're a doctor, just give me my magic pill and I will be on my way." Well all I was told was to go on my way and take it easy. I did not want to take it easy. I knew there was more to it than that, but if the doctor did not know what was wrong with me, then it must be serious. This was the start of 10 years of being seen by one doctor after another, one therapist after another, so called experts that just read from a medical manual and taught me nothing at all. In fact I never even got an explanation of what was wrong with me. I spent more money than I care to remember on so called miracle cures. I tried every treatment available to me and nothing worked. If only I had known then what I know now, I could have saved myself all those years of suffering.

"How Would You Like To Gradually Lessen The Intensity Of Your Panic Or Anxiety Attacks Until Those Attacks Are Gone For Good?!"

Anxiety disorders are varied and include things like social anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and phobias. Millions of people around the world are diagnosed with an anxiety disorder during their lifetimes, and so many are looking for answers as to what has caused this medical condition, which can be quite serious. The title here may be misleading, because there really is no one cause of anxiety disorders. You may have an anxiety disorder for any number of reasons, or a combination of reasons. In order to learn more about your condition and try to pin point its cause, here are a few of the things that play into the development of an anxiety disorder.

First and foremost, many people want to know if anxiety disorders are genetic and can be passed on to future generations. Studies show that this may be the case. If a parent has an anxiety disorder, there is a chance that you may get this disorder as well. However, family factors may play a role in this as well. When you are raised in a household in which someone has an anxiety disorder, you are essentially taught these panic behaviors as well. Phobias are especially common to be passed to other family members. Insure relationships with parents may also cause anxiety disorders later in life. In short, this may be partially due to genetics, but also has something to do with your childhood environment as well.

Other environmental experiences outside of your childhood living conditions play into the development for anxiety disorders as well. If you have a traumatizing event as a child, or even as an adult, that even could either stay with you, causing post-traumatic stress disorder, or could affect your thinking, causing other types of anxiety disorders. Social pressures and culture may play a role in this as well, teaching people to become anxious at certain times or fearful of certain things.

An anxiety disorder may also be the result of health factors not related to genetics. Phobias and other anxiety disorders sometimes develop due to a chemical imbalance in the brain, especially with the chemical serotonin, which also affects depression in some people. Evolution comes into play, because you automatically have a fight-or-flight system built into our brains. The foods we eat, amount we exercise, and sleep we get every night all play roles into how our brain functions.

Lastly, anxiety disorders may develop due to stress. When you are stressed about something, you may find that you slow start to wear out. While our bodies are built to handle certain amounts of stress, over time, this simply breaks down and we give in to anxiety, which can develop into an anxiety disorder. No matter what the reason, however, it is simply important that you ask for help dealing with your condition.

Are You a Free Thinker or an Intellectual Prostitute?

=====================================================
Are You a Free Thinker or an Intellectual Prostitute?

- by Tony Mase

© Tony Mase - All Rights Reserved
http://www.constructivescience.com
=====================================================

As a father whose world revolves around his eight-year-old
son, most of what little television I've watched over the
last eight years has been kids' shows, primarily cartoons.

Although I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, one of my
current favorites is "SpongeBob SquarePants".

I don't know why, it just is. :-)

One of my favorite episodes of "SpongeBob SquarePants" is
titled "Selling Out".

In this episode, SpongeBob's employer, Mr. Krabs, sells "The
Krusty Krab" restaurant for a trailer filled with suitcases
full of money to a corporate conglomerate that intends on
turning "The Krusty Krab" into a big chain.

Although it's what he always wanted, Mr. Krabs, now rich
beyond his wildest dreams, quickly discovers retirement
isn't all he thought it would be.

As a matter of fact...

He finds himself bored out of his mind with absolutely
nothing to do.

So...

Mr. Krabs takes a job as a busboy and dishwasher at "The
Krusty Krab", now renamed "Krabby O' Mondays", only to find
out it's no longer the restaurant it once was...

Everything is now very carefully "scripted", tightly
controlled by a manager following corporate manuals full of
strictly enforced policies, procedures, rules and
regulations...

Squidward is constantly smiling...

Mr. Krabs' beloved "Krabby Patties" are no longer made by
hand using the finest ingredients, but by a machine using
recycled garbage passed off by slick marketing to
unsuspecting customers as real food...

And...

Even worse...

The customers' money is no longer collected by real sea
creatures, but by an automated cash register.

When Mr. Krabs questions Carl, the new manager of "Krabby O'
Mondays", Carl tells Mr. Krabs "it's better if you don't
know" and closes the office door in his face.

Unable to take anymore...

With SpongeBob and Squidward standing by, scared to death to
say anything for fear of being "punished"...

Mr. Krabs, who hasn't read the employee handbook, nor cares
to, violates company policy and...

Speaks out...

Loudly...

So loud...

Everyone, including the customers, can hear what he knew to
be "wrong".

With an "uprising" clearly underway...

Carl grabs his cell phone, calls corporate headquarters and
says something to the effect of:

Code red...

We have a free thinker!

When I first saw this episode of "SpongeBob SquarePants", it
immediately reminded me of a passage I'd read in a book just
a few days earlier and had been pondering...

In "How to Get What You Want", a book he wrote prior to "The
Science of Getting Rich", the book for which he's best
known, Wallace D. Wattles writes:

"If you are an employee and desire promotion, put life into
everything you do; put in more than enough life and interest
to fill each piece of work."

"But do not be servile; never be a flunkey; and above all
things avoid the intellectual prostitution which is the vice
of our times in many trades and most professions."

"I mean by this the being a mere hired apologist for and
defender of immorality, graft, dishonesty, or vice in any
form."

"The intellectual prostitute may rise in the service, but he
is a lost soul."

"Respect yourself; be absolutely just to all; put LIFE into
every act and thought..."

Interesting...

Although Wallace D. Wattles wrote these words nearly one
hundred years ago, they could have just as easily been
written today.

Think about it...

The "intellectual prostitution which is the vice of our
times in many trades and most professions" has since risen
to the level of an art form and even become a profession in
and of itself.

All levels of business and government are virtually
overflowing with paid apologizers, defenders and ignorers of
immorality, graft, dishonesty, or vice...

People who've "sold out" their beliefs, morals and values
for a paycheck, and often not a very big one at that,
totally oblivious to the true cost...

"A lost soul," as Wallace D. Wattles put it.

Jesus, the Master Teacher, once asked:

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole
world, and lose his own soul?"

With that in mind...

My question for you to ponder today is...

Are you a "free thinker" like Mr. Krabs or an "intellectual
prostitute" like Carl?

The choice is yours...

Make it a good one...

It may well mean the difference between having respect for
yourself and being "a lost soul". :-)

How To Overcome Procrastination

Thomas Edison's first lightbulb which was used...Image via Wikipedia

Enthusiasm is what makes the difference between reaching our goals and giving up before we
get started.
Thomas Edison said, "If the only thing we leave our kids is the quality of
enthusiasm, we will have given them an estate of incalculable value."
Edison's research laboratory burned to the ground when he was 67. As the fire consumed his world-famous
"invention factory," Edison told his children, "Kids, go get your mother. She'll never see another
fire like this one." Edison knew that enthusiasm is the best antidote for tragedy, and it's the most
powerful weapon to use in the war against procrastination.

How to Overcome Procrastination will keep you moving forward and freeing yourself from any psychological blocks that may come your way.

I have learned that my level of enthusiasm has nothing to do with my feelings; my feelings wake
up on a different side of the bed every day.
To take control of my life, I must choose the way I feel-I can't let my feelings control me. Can you talk yourself into a positive frame of mind when when
you're discouraged? How do you keep yourself motivated? How do you stay focused.

How to Overcome Procrastination will show you how
you're discouraged? How do you keep yourself motivated? How do you stay

Yes, this could be the best $5 you ever invested

Cognitive-Behavior Therapy

Dispel the Anxiety

Cognitive-Behavior Therapy: Could it Work for You?

Anxiety disorders can be very difficult medical conditions with which to live. However, if you are suffering from panic disorder, social phobias, generalize anxiety disorder, or any one of the number of other anxiety disorders, all is not lost. By talking to your doctor, you can get help controlling your symptoms and treating these disorders at the core. One form of treatment you can consider is cognitive-behavior therapy.

Cognitive-behavior therapy is a combination of cognitive therapy and behavioral therapy. With cognitive therapy, a person learns to understand and change their thoughts and beliefs. With behavioral therapy, a person learns to change specific actions. Combining these two therapies is not difficult and has provided anxiety disorder patients with the very best results.

Cognitive therapy focuses mainly on patients recognizing certain things within themselves. Many people are confused about cognitive therapy—it isn’t about changing negative thoughts to positive thoughts in order to push for happiness. Instead isn’t about changing destructing thoughts that are often repetitive and feed into anxiety to thoughts that are more easily controlled and do not trigger anxiety attacks.

Behavior therapy, on the other hand, focuses on changing your actions instead. Relaxation and breathing exercises are common with behavioral therapy for anxiety disorder patients. Another type of behavioral therapy treatment commonly used is desensitization, which places patients in situations that cause anxiety gradually, in order to get used to the idea and control the anxiety.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy does not work well for absolutely everyone. While there are many people who can benefit from this form of treatment, there are others who will do better with other treatments. If you are considering cognitive-behavioral therapy, you need to meet two qualifications. First, you have to be motivated to change. If you are resistant to change, you won’t do the work required to make cognitive-behavioral therapy work and recovery is not possible. Secondly, you need to have access to a therapist specially trained to deal with cognitive-behavioral therapy. Your doctor can help you find a professional in your area.

In short, think about trying cognitive-behavioral therapy as a form of treatment for your anxiety disorders, even if nothing else has helped you. When you seek treatment, you put yourself on the right track for actually feeling better.
