2. Start short. Begin to overcome by asking for a tour of an empty plane and sitting in a plane that is not moving or that is just taxing around. This may require visiting a small airport with private planes because many of the major airlines have cut such programs do to budget restraints.
3. Take a friend. Travel with support the first few times that you fly. Bring someone along that can keep you focused on the good and the positive so that your mind can not wander to the "what ifs" that cause the fear to build up.
4. Talk to someone. Be willing to open up about your fear of flying. It is often the acknowledgement of the fear that begins the process of overcoming that fear. You can share with a support group or a close confidant. Just begin to talk about your feelings and concerns and the fear will slowly begin to come under control.
