Overcome Fear - How to Live a Fearless Life

B 125x125 Graphics

You have to overcome fear to live a meaningful and happy life. Simply put, fear is anxiety or worry about potential dangers and future events. Everyone has different kinds of fear in life, but the worst ones are those that prevent you from enjoying life and attaining success. That's why it's extremely important to overcome fear and disregard self-doubt.

It is not an easy task to get over your fears and subdue the constantly gnawing seed of anxiety in your mind. To overcome fear, you have to understand where it is coming from and why you are hanging on to it. Most importantly, you need to learn how to work to banish fear from your life and allow yourself to experience new and different things.

First of all, you have to take the time to sit down and make a list of all your fears in life. Ask yourself why you are afraid of them and how you have been dealing with these particular fears. Figure out what's more important to you - avoiding your fears or overcoming them in order to reach your goals. The answer should come to you easily enough and that's a major step in helping you overcome fear. Make a list of your biggest ambitions in life and write down the things that prevented you from accomplishing them as well.

You must also learn to stop listening to your inner critic. Your inner critic is your voice of doubt and worry, the one that always tells you why you can't do certain things. You may have been living with it for years, but if you develop enough strength and faith in yourself and your abilities, you will be able to overcome fear by shutting out one of the major things that keep you from your dreams.

Remember to let go of your preconceived notions. Ideas you have formed about how impossible some things are and how imminent failure can be can make you afraid of what will happen if you pursue your passions. Thinking positively about the future is a good way of ensuring that you overcome your fear enough to take charge of your life.

One major way to overcome fear is to really look it straight in the face. Giving yourself an inspired push and taking baby steps towards your goal will help you see that it is possible for you to succeed and will help prove that your fears are unfounded, which should give you enough courage to forge on.

It may not be an easy task to get started. Pushing yourself to overcome fear may be difficult in the beginning and you may need support in doing this. But once you get started, you'll learn that there's more to life than living in fear and excessive caution, which will help you on your way to your dreams.

Getting to Know Fears and Phobias

Optimists see the world as a benevolent place.Image via Wikipedia

A person’s fear can hinder his chances for development and for success. Fear in itself can be debilitating and can limit a person’s ability to go through life in a healthy way. Sometimes, a person’s fear can rule a person’s life and he becomes bereft of reason.

A person who allows his fear to rule his life can be prevented from leading a normal life. The sad fact is that the person who has the fear is not the only one affected, but also his family, friends, and the people around him.

Fear can be healthy because it allows a person to be on his toes and to be watchful of what is happening around him. A person can actually make his fears work for him instead of against him. Then again, this requires a lot of self-control and positive thinking.

A person’s fear can be caused by an event that happened some time ago, or by a belief that he is not capable of dealing with something or someone. There are fears that have a real basis, but most fears are just the creations of one’s imagination.

Phobia is also a fear of something, but such fear can be considered irrational. A phobia can be ridiculous and exaggerated such as a person’s fear of cats or of water. Some people who have developed phobias are aware that the fear is not based on rational thinking; but unfortunately, they are not able to get hold of their emotions and rise above their irrational fear.

Some people are quick to equate phobia with insanity; but it is not fair to conclude that just because a person is phobic, it means that there must be something wrong with his sanity. A person’s phobia can sometimes be embarrassing, especially when he is not able to control such fear. There are people who actually shiver and hide when confronted with their phobias.

Phobias can be simple like the simple fear of being in an enclosed area, or complex like the fear of riding an airplane. A social fear can be manifested in the fear of public speaking or of being surrounded by a crowd. Most phobias are characterized by panic attacks such as when the person is confronted by his phobia and he is forced to come face-to-face with it.

It is normal to be afraid because fear is rational. However, a fear that becomes irrational and is already without basis, is already called a phobia. It is no longer normal and can disrupt a person‘s lifestyle.

A person who wants to get rid of his phobia should not turn to doctors who dig deeper just to discover the root cause of the phobia. Such an activity can be a waste of time because finding the underlying cause of the phobia will not get rid of it. What is more important is to be determined and strong-willed so that the person’s fears will no longer rule his emotions. If a person can learn how to handle his emotions, then he can get rid of his phobia.

Fear – When You Can’t “Just Get Over It”

Fear – When You Can’t “Just Get Over It

Have you ever tried to explain to a friend or family member your fear of driving? Sometimes the reaction you’ll get won’t be the one you’re looking for. Instead of a sympathetic shoulder, you often get rolled eyes and a response like, “Just forget about it,” or “You have to get over it.”

It isn’t always as easy as turning off your fears like you would a faucet. Fears are embedded in our conscious and subconscious mind. They become ingrained as a formal belief system that we hold.

Getting past a fear like driving doesn’t necessarily mean it will ever be completely erased from your mind, but you can find ways of relieving the panic and anxiety you feel when confronted by your fears.

Facing fears is often the most difficult thing we can do. It’s our instinct to avoid those things that worry us or that we fear will do us harm in some way, whether it’s physical or emotional turmoil.

The first thing you have to do is examine the fear of driving to see if it’s credible or irrational. It doesn’t matter if it is irrational; you’ll still need to find a way to deal with it. But giving it a realistic examination will help you find a solution to your anxieties.

For instance, you might fear that you’ll get lost and have to stop for directions. When examining the evidence, you see there have been previous times you’ve gotten lost. This is a valid fear that would require you to take action in the form of being sure to bring a map and maybe a cell phone.

An irrational fear might be having a panic attack every time you drive more than 10 miles from home. When examining this fear, you find that whether you’re near to home or further away, the act of driving is the same and the fear isn’t justified.

Either way, you’ll need to take the next step, which is dealing with your fear responsibly. For irrational fears, you’ll need to learn how to remove the bulk of the stress you feel by calming yourself down before you allow panic to ensue.

You might do this by using breathing techniques, self-hypnosis, or even (in some rare cases when you can’t control your fears), through prescribed anti-anxiety medications.

Don’t ever let yourself become prisoner to your fear of driving (or any other fear, get my free report below). Whether you have a close support system or not, you have the power to take control and diminish the effect it has over you and your life.
